Do dental implants require invasive surgery?
At Willow Dental in Mississauga, we can now place dental implants without invasive surgery thanks to our technologically advanced system. Our implant dentist, Dr. Neil Elman, can install the artificial tooth for natural-looking results.
Don’t dental implants require bone grafts?
In order for dental implants to be successfully placed, you must have enough bone mass in your jaw to support them. If you have been missing teeth for some time, or if you have been wearing traditional dentures, you might have experienced bone loss. Sufficient bone loss means that bone grafting will be necessary to provide necessary bone mass as a foundation for dental implants. A discussion with Dr. Elman will help determine if you need bone grafts.
Why are dental implants made of titanium?
The portion of the dental implant that is placed in your jawbone is made of titanium and is shaped like a screw. The reason titanium is the material of choice for dental implants is because of its natural ability to bond with bone. When the dental implant bonds with the bone of your jaw, it provides a stable base for your restorations. The titanium functions in tandem with your jawbone in the same way as a natural tooth root, keeping your jawbone healthy.
What if I am not a good candidate for dental implants?
Several factors could indicate that you may not be an ideal candidate for dental implants. If you have suffered extreme bone loss in your jaw, or if you are in poor overall health, your dentist might suggest that dental implants are not the best choice to replace your missing teeth. In this case, full or partial dentures or a porcelain bridge might work better for you.
