What Problems Do Porcelain Veneers Fix?

In Toronto and Mississauga, Ontario

Among the most dramatic cosmetic dental improvements is one that is both versatile and immediate. Porcelain veneers fix many problems making them one of the most appreciated dental treatments. As a patient of Willow Dental Associates, you’ll see the results immediately after the veneers are bonded to your teeth. Porcelain has properties that make it reflect light similarly to tooth enamel, so they look very natural.

Porcelain veneers are not just for cosmetic dental treatment. They offer an effective alternative to protect damaged teeth from further damage. By protecting teeth with porcelain veneers you can avoid secondary problems that affect bite, bone health, or jaw health, while creating an attractive smile at the same time.

Chipped, Cracked or Broken Teeth

Chipped or broken teeth are not just unattractive. They can break the sensitive tissue in your mouth and pose a risk of infection. Because they are damaged they can chip away further, exposing the nerve and causing pain. Chipped or broken teeth are at greater risk for decay. In some cases veneers can be an alternative to a crown.

Stained Teeth

Teeth can become stained from any of several causes that are not treatable by whitening. Root canal treatment, drugs such as tetracycline or fluoride, and resin fillings can all stain teeth permanently. Porcelain veneers are an ideal treatment to brighten teeth that have been discolored. Porcelain is a stain resistant ceramic material, but its color can be matched to neighboring teeth, or a lighter color can be chosen to brighten all of your teeth.

Worn Teeth / Decayed Teeth

Worn teeth have lost some of their enamel. The remaining enamel is thinner and more susceptible to erosion, chipping and cracking. Worn teeth may be uneven, as well. All of these conditions can be corrected with porcelain veneers, which can be shaped to fill in the eroded enamel and restore the original size and shape of your teeth.  Porcelain veneers are also a lovely solution to mask teeth damaged and marred by decay.

Misshapen or Misaligned Teeth

Not all teeth grow symmetrically. Some have craters or bulges. Some are oddly shaped. Others might be misaligned, shorter or uneven. Porcelain veneers can be shaped to create an even bite, or smooth surface and proportional shape that flatters your smile.

Gaps Between Teeth

If you have gaps between your teeth, porcelain veneers can be an effective alternative to orthodontic treatment in closing smaller gaps.
