Types Of Dentures
Dentures, often known as “false teeth” are dental prosthesis used to replace missing teeth and allow you to chew and speak.
Although there are limits to what a denture can do, they are a great less expensive alternative to dental implants or dental bridges.
Dentures can be made to replace 1 or more missing teeth and are custom fitted to your mouth. The process can take up to several weeks to complete.
During the first appointment the dentist will take molds of your teeth and also register how your top teeth bite together with your bottom. The molds are sent to the lab where they prepare a mock up of your denture. There could be several try in appointments of the mock up to get the fit of the denture as well as the colour and shape of the teeth to look as natural as possible. Once this is complete the denture is finished at the lab and returned to our office for the final insert.
It may take a few adjustments to the denture after insertion to get it just right and feeling comfortable.
It’s important to know that once you have a denture, it is smart to have it checked yearly for strength and durability in addition to check the health of your gums underneath. If this is done, dentures could last a long time as long as there have been no changes to your mouth.
